Sierra Nevada

Independence Fishing Information

Many of the lakes and streams in the area are stocked by the California Department of Fish and Game. The trout season in the eastern High Sierra runs from the last Saturday in April to November 15th.

Onion Valley
If you hike out of Onion Valley, the first lake you will come to will be Little Pothole, then on to Gilbert, Hart, and Flower Lakes as you hike up the trail to Kearsarge Pass. All the lakes have beautiful brook trout that you can catch using a fly and a bobber.

Other areas include upper or lower Gray’s Meadow area of Independence Creek which is stocked weekly with nice trout by the Department of Fish and Game. Or take Foothill Road south to Symmes, Shepherd, North and South Bairs Creek, and Georges Creek.
